Health for Humanity is a Canadian, volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization that provides health care to the people of Guatemala.
Dr. Pauls has joined the group as a surgical assistant
in the operating room for the past 7 years.
Health for Humanity is…
VOLUNTEER OPERATED. No salaries or infrastructure, and minimal overhead mean that more than 95% of donations go directly to pay for patient-related expenses. Our teams are made up of health care professionals and others who volunteer their time and pay their own expenses on all projects.
PARTNERSHIPS. We work with local health organizations to provide the best care to communities who have limited or no access to surgical and primary health services.
In 2016, our group donated medical supplies and medications, 550 lb of clothing and 440 pairs of shoes to the hospital’s long term care residents, and 50 water filters to schools in Quisache. In the 3-week surgical program, 337 procedures were performed at a cost of $85 per patient. Over one third of the patients travelled long distances to reach the hospital, and most of those patients were children who required repair of cleft lip and palate.
